Elkem Declares the 2022 R&D 100 Awards Winner

Lately, Elkem declared a 2022 R&D 100 Awards winner for its BLUESIL™ RT Foam series.

The R&D 100 Awards competition was founded in 1963. As the world’s most influential awards competition for innovation, it is known as “the Oscars” of the technology industry. The expert jury selects 100 outstanding technologies of great significance from thousands of technological innovations globally each year based on the following three criteria: technological breakthrough, innovation uniqueness and application practicality.

The award-winning BLUESIL™ RT Foam series products are mainly used in sealing battery packs for new energy vehicles (NEVs). As a core component of NEVs, the performance of battery pack seals is crucial to the safety and stability of the battery system. BLUESIL™ RT Foam series products deliver excellent compression deformation and resilience, outstanding heat insulation, corrosion resistance and combustion-supporting properties. The foam can protect battery packs for a long time, and it is suitable for various types of sealing surfaces used in battery packs. Compared with similar products on the market, this product has a lower density. This can reduce the cost of battery packs by making them lighter in addition to the improved sealing performance.

At present, the BLUESIL™ RT Foam series products have ensured travel safety for about 3 million NEVs globally.
